Dr. Jamitta Covington
Dr. Jamitta Covington is a resident of Virginia Beach. She is married to Nashan and has a three-year old son, Nashan Jr. “NJ.” She's worked in the mental health profession for over 10 years servicing children, adults, and families. Jamitta is a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW) in Virginia and recently obtained a doctorate of social work in family studies and interventions from Walden University. As a youth she was involved in making a difference in the community through outreach ministries. In 2017, she founded my 501 ©3 B.E.I.N.G (Building, Educating, Inspiring, Nurturing, and Guiding) You, Inc. B.E.I.N.G. You is a community-based mentoring program to help youth build confidence and critical skills to thrive in life. The program offers numerous services including one-on-one mentoring, group mentoring, community service projects, annual community events, workshops, and guest speaking. As a mentor, Jamitta takes pride in providing support, guidance, and opportunities for individuals to succeed in life. Through mentorship, she strives to create a safe space for individuals to build an emotional bond through mentorship and talk about relevant topics that affect them and together identify solutions. She believes in the quote “Be who you needed when you were younger.” Life experiences have shifted her passion to specializing in maternal mental health, perinatal mental health, and grief. Jamitta is a board member for Postpartum Support Virginia where she's able to connect her personal and professional experiences to impact change. Her doctoral capstone focused on ways to support children following a parental death, which has heightened her interest in offering therapy services to individuals navigating a recent loss. In her spare time, Jamitta enjoys spending time with family, traveling, and exercising.
LauraBeth DeHority, PsyD
LauraBeth DeHority is a therapist who specializes in working with caregivers and families. She works with individuals, couples, siblings, groups and multigenerational families to provide support in areas of family roles and communication, stress reduction, anxiety, depression, grief and addiction. In addition to private practice, she has been an adjunct professor in the Master of Arts in Counseling program at William Jessup University where she has taught Family Therapy and Law and Ethics. She facilitates a weekly parent support group at Parents Helping Parents (PHP)and has served as a speaker and facilitator at PHP, Shire House, Help One Child and other community and faith-based caregiver support groups. She is a facilitator for SibShops. Currently, LauraBeth is a board member of Prime Plus and a member of the Norfolk Rotary and the Downtown Circle of Children’s Hospital of the Kings Daughters. She is a past Board Chair of Via Services, a private, independent nonprofit organization dedicated to helping individuals with disabilities and special needs achieve greater self-sufficiency and lead richer lives. She is also a past chair of the Mary Baldwin Advisory Board of Visitors; past president of the Cambrian Park Kiwanis in San Jose, California; and past board member of the Junior League of San Jose. LauraBeth is a graduate of Mary Baldwin University and holds a masters in Marital and Family Therapy from Western Seminary. She holds a Doctorate of Psychology (PsyD) from California Southern University.
Theresa Privette, MSN, FNP-C, APRN
Theresa is a highly skilled Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP-C) with 24 years of extensive experience in emergency nursing and leadership roles. Throughout Theresa’s distinguished career, she has demonstrated exceptional clinical expertise and compassionate care, making a significant impact in the healthcare field and earning the respect and trust of both her patients and colleagues.
Theresa deeply understands grief and loss, drawing from personal and professional experiences to support patients and families during their most challenging times. She employs a compassionate and empathetic approach, helping individuals navigate their emotions to find solace and hope amidst their grief. She has a holistic approach, promoting health, wellness, and healing in her community, her family, and her peer group, and most especially in her mentoring of women. She ensures that each person in her charge receives individual personalized attention and investment. Education, empowerment, empathy, and a commitment to excellence are the cornerstones of her practice.
As a motivational speaker and teacher, Theresa has presented in diverse settings, served as a panelist, and participated in radio broadcasts on grief/ loss, compassion/empathy, leadership, and various health topics.
Theresa is an art lover, especially of music and the stage. She finds great peace in nature and being near bodies of water. She has the joy of being married to her best friend for the last 21 years. She is the mother of two phenomenal children. Friend, sister, and confidante to many.
