Step into stories of strength and resilience as Arts for Learning's Sarah Osburn Brady gives voice to three trailblazing women of the Civil War.

When we think of the American Civil War, we often think of the men who defended the union and those who claimed to defend states’ rights. But what about the women whose lives were influenced by the decisions of others? Sarah Osburn Brady brings to life the stories of three remarkable women of the American Civil War: Mary Walker, a Union army doctor and Medal of Honor recipient; Sarah Grimke, one of two women from South Carolina to become a vocal part of the abolitionist movement as well as an early proponent of rights for all women; and Ellen Craft, a woman born enslaved and willing to do whatever necessary to obtain the freedom she deserved.

Artist Biography: 

Sarah Osburn Brady is a storyteller, writer, and credentialed National Teaching Artist through Young Audiences Arts for Learning (National), an honor that recognizes exceptional teaching artists. Sarah taught communication and theater at multiple universities before making her way into the storytelling world where she spans genres of historical, traditional, literary, and personal tales. Passionate about stories that help us see each other and the world around us, Sarah specializes in finding the heart of each story she tells.
