Detective Brian Furbish was born and raised in Chesapeake, Virginia where he graduated from Deep Creek High School. In 2005, he began attending Old Dominion University as an Engineering Major. Thankfully, he changed his majors during his first semester upon realizing he hated his Engineering classes but loved one of his electives: Introduction to Criminology. In 2009, He graduated from Old Dominion University with a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice. In 2010, Detective Furbish joined the Chesapeake Police Department, working first as a Patrol Officer from 2010 to 2020 with his last two years as a Field Training Officer. In 2020, he was appointed to be a Detective with the Chesapeake Police Criminal Investigations Section as an Investigator in the Internet Crimes Against Children Unit. After 6 months, Detective Furbish changed from an Investigator to a Digital Forensics Expert within the Unit. Recognizing the role in Digital Forensics in numerous types of cases, Digital Forensics has been moved to its own unit in late 2024 with Detective Furbish being the senior member. Detective Furbish extracts over 100 phones a year as well as many tablets, computers, and data from cloud sources. He's been qualified as a Digital Forensics Expert in multiple cases presented to the Chesapeake Circuit Court and has assisted the FBI and NCIS in several investigations, which have included homicides, domestic terrorism, and internet crimes against children. The Chesapeake Police Department has awarded Detective Furbish two Life Saving Awards (2017 and 2018) and Detective of the Year (2023). He was also awarded Officer of the Year by the Deep Creek Ruritan Club (2018).
