Ian T. Abernathy is a member of the Virginia State Police (VSP). As of early 2026, records indicate he serves as a Trooper II.
His career with the department began in March 2020, when he graduated from the 132nd Basic Session of the Virginia State Police Academy. Upon graduation, he was initially assigned to the Chesapeake/Portsmouth/Suffolk area.
In his role as a Special Agent Accountant, Abernathy has been specifically identified as a Special Agent Accountant within the VSP. In this capacity, his work involves high-level investigations within the Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI), which utilizes specialized agents for complex cases including Financial Crimes: Investigating fraud, money
