Jon Sham has worked as the director of digital media with WTKR & WGNT since the fall of 2022. In his role he oversees the strategy of owned & operated digital platforms, social media, podcasts, and streaming, in addition to editorial leadership in the newsroom. Jon worked with Margaret and others at the station to develop the True Crime 757 concept — a way of highlighting the remarkable reporting of our teams and presenting episodic journalism in a longer, cohesive format.
Prior to WTKR, Jon worked at Lockheed Martin as a creative director and video producer, as a multimedia journalist for The Baltimore Sun, taught visual journalism classes at the University of Maryland, and ran a wedding videography business in the DMV area. He lives in Norfolk with his wife and 1-year-old daughter, with whom he spends most of his free time.

Investigative Reporter Margaret Kavanagh joined News 3 in March 2015 and loves covering news in Hampton Roads. Her investigations into unclaimed property and the treatment of rape victims caused two separate laws to get passed in the state of Virginia. She also got a Chesapeake woman a new murder trial after uncovering new evidence in her case. WTKR created the True Crime 757 in 2025, which highlights stories Margaret and other journalists have reported on at WTKR. She loves the podcast and giving insight into how she reports on issues impacting the community. Prior to WTKR, she worked for Central Florida News 13 in Orlando, KNDU in Tri-Cities, Washington and WBCB in Bucks County, Pennsylvania. Margaret is married to a retired sailor and has two wonderful stepdaughters. She grew up in Cherry Hill, New Jersey, attended Rutgers University and then got her MBA at Longwood University. Go Birds. She'd love to hear any story idea you are interested in investigating. Margaret.Kavanagh@WTKR.com
