Begin your zine experience with skilled library staff who will guide you through a 6-week course that culminates with the publication of your own original zine which will be displayed at the library.
Zinetroduction: Week 1 | July 20 | 4:00 p.m. - 5:30 p.m.
This class will introduce teens to zines with an immersion into the various possibilities of zines and the breakdown process involved in creating them.
Zinestorming: Week 2 | July 27 | 4:00 p.m. - 5:30 p.m.
Our staff will guide teens in the brainstorming process to create the basis for a zine. Teens will use this time to bounce their ideas off of each other in small groups.
Zinelining: Week 3 | August 3 | 4:00 p.m. - 5:30 p.m.
During this week’s exercise, the teens will work to create a fully developed outline or storyboard depending upon their choice.
Zinedits: Week 4 | August 10 | 4:00 p.m. - 5:30 p.m.
We will practice the art of positive criticism with exercises like a gallery walk during which teens will provide anonymous feedback to the artists. Staff will include artwork of their own to share in the editing process with teens.
ZineFest!! Week 5 | August 20 | 12:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Teens will have the opportunity to participate in up to six 30-minute classes with professional zine creators and artists during the SoNo ZineFest at South Norfolk Memorial Library. Meet with and obtain advice from a wide array of artists.
Zinale! Week 6 | August 27 | 4:00 p.m. - 5:30 p.m.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate everyone's works of art as the teens share their final product with others with an official art debut. All participants will receive a copy of their work.
